Our District

Welcome to the Sedro-Woolley School District
  Superintendent’s Message

At this time last year, I was updating you on the success of our academic programs based on the Strategic Roadmap and the expansion of programs and services for our students, including full day kindergarten, our STEM initiatives, safety and technology updates, and the success of our students in extra-curricular activities and athletics.

This past year we partnered closely with the Arts Council of Sedro-Woolley and had very successful art docent programs at Central and Samish Elementary Schools. The success of thisphil-brockman program supported our decision to formally bring art and music specialists back to all of our elementary schools this fall. We look forward to the expansion of the arts for all of our children and our continued partnership with the art docents and the Arts Council of Sedro-Woolley.

This year, we are again adding new programs and services for our students.  In all of our elementary schools we are adding art, music, and library instructional media specialists.  At Cascade Middle School, we have added teaching blocks of time for STEM and the Highly Capable Program, in addition to expanding the pre-engineering and computer coding classes. Sedro-Woolley High School is transitioning to an 8 period alternating day schedule and adding additional college in the high school courses, pre-engineering, and broadcasting courses.

We continue to prioritize student achievement by “providing high quality instruction in every classroom, every day.” We continue to be education leaders in our region as evidenced by Big Lake, Clear Lake, and Lyman Elementary Schools being honored as recipients of the Washington Achievement Award, adding to recent previous recipients of Central Elementary and Sedro-Woolley High School.

Our roadmap also speaks to partnerships, and I would like to recognize the Soroptimist International of Sedro-Woolley and the City of Sedro-Woolley for their support. The Soroptimist were recognized by the school district this year for their many years of school and community support, especially for their generous college scholarships. The City of Sedro-Woolley has been instrumental in the development of the Sedro-Woolley STEM Network that will support our students with job shadows, field trips to local business and industry, speaking engagements in our classrooms, and possible student internships.

Once again, we are able to improve our school security, technology in the classroom, and enhance programs and services because of your support. Our mission states that “every student graduates with the knowledge and skills for future learning and success.” With your continued support and partnership, our students will continue to accomplish amazing things and achieve at high levels!
